Location/Getting to the Academy

WMG Academy for Young Engineers Solihull, Chelmsley Road, Birmingham, B37 5LA.Location Map 1

By Public Transport

The WMG Academy, Solihull, is located within a five minute walk of Chelmsley Wood bus station terminus. Because of its proximity to Chelmsley Wood’s town centre, the Academy is well served by a range of public transport:-

We recommend that you use the network West Midlands website www.networkwestmidlands.com as it provides a complete list of all public transport serving the North Solihull area as well as providing interactive maps and travel advice for buses http://www.networkwestmidlands.com/web/FILES/ChelWd-RDA-024.pdf and trains http://www.networkwestmidlands.com/train/NetworkMap.aspx.

For students under the age of 16, we suggest applying for a free ‘under 16 photo-card’ from network West Midlands at www.networkwestmidlands.com/Tickets/ChildPhotocard.aspx. This card proves to drivers and inspectors that the student is entitled to a child’s fare – even if he/she looks older. You can use this card to get a child fare when you’re paying cash or buying the child rate season ticket on the bus, train and Metro.

For students between the ages of 16 – 18, we understand, in the majority of cases, it is most economical to purchase a ‘16 – 18 photo-card’ from network West Midlands at www.networkwestmidlands.com/Tickets/16-18/16-18_home.aspx. Further information regarding this card can be found on the page attached.

By Bicycle

Although in the vicinity of a number of busy arterial routes and dual carriage ways, approaches to the Academy feature numerous cycle lanes.

The Academy is linked via the North Solihull Cycle network which boasts 18 km of new cycle routes. The scheme opened in 2014 and links Chelmsley Road (where the Academy is located) to the remainder of the North Solihull area. For further details please use the following link http://www.solihull.gov.uk/Resident/Leisure-parks/fitness/cycling/north-solihull-cycling-network.

Further information on the National Cycling Network can be found at www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map

Students & Staff wishing to cycle to the WMG Academy will be able to leave their bikes in the bike shelter provided, please note that you will still require a padlock for your bike.

By Car

Lift Sharing

We are aware that a number of parents are considering sharing lifts and whilst we cannot organise this on behalf of parents and students we can facilitate the process.  If you are interested in car sharing, please contact solihull.info@wmgacademy.org.uk.

Please be aware that the WMG Academy is unable to take responsibility for checking the suitability of any personal arrangements you make with other parents, whether from the perspective of welfare or vehicle safety.

Car Parking for Y12 and Y13 Students

Unfortunately we are unable to provide parking for students due to limited spaces and regular visits from employer partners.
