WMG ACADEMY SOLIHULL is celebrating an exceptional first year of T Level results, with every student in its inaugural Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control cohort successfully passing the qualification and, impressively, almost 70% achieving a Merit or Distinction.
The results are a powerful endorsement of the Academy’s distinctive approach to technical and vocational education: combining high-quality academic teaching with specialist facilities, practical learning, substantial industry experience and close links with employers.
The success comes during WMG Academy Solihull’s best-ever year for Sixth Form outcomes. More than a third of students achieved a top grade of Distinction*, A* or A, while every Further Maths student achieved A*–B, every Computer Science student achieved A*–C, and 55% of students taking the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering achieved Distinction or above.
Those results are translating into exceptional next steps. Students are progressing to leading universities, higher and degree apprenticeships and employment, including the University of Warwick, University of Birmingham and Aston University.
Among the Academy’s first T Level graduates is Grace Palmer, who achieved a Distinction in T Level Engineering alongside an A* in her Extended Project Qualification and secured a Degree Apprenticeship with Parker Meggitt, a global engineering business operating across aerospace, defence and energy.
Building on that success, WMG Academy Solihull is expanding its T Level offer from September 2026 with a new Digital Software Development pathway alongside its established Engineering T Level. Students will develop skills in areas including programming, software development, cyber security and emerging digital technologies, alongside substantial industry placement experience.
T Levels are nationally recognised Level 3 qualifications, equivalent in size to three A Levels, developed with employers and built around occupational skills. A substantial industry placement is a core part of the programme. At Solihull, the new Digital pathway will add another direct route into growing technology careers while retaining the Academy’s employer-led ethos.
The expansion comes at a moment when technical education is moving firmly up the national agenda. The Prime Minister recently announced plans for new technical education pathways from age 14, combining core academic learning with technical skills, work experience and stronger links with employers, with an ambition to begin rolling the new routes out from September 2028.
For WMG Academy, that direction of travel is familiar.
Sponsored by the University of Warwick and supported by more than 50 companies and organisations, WMG Academy has long put real employer projects, technical expertise and employability at the centre of education. Its partners span engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure and technology and include organisations such as Aston Martin, Bosch, Jaguar Land Rover, National Grid, Parker Meggitt and WMG at the University of Warwick.
The Academy’s model gives students the chance to combine academic study with practical, employer-led learning, helping them understand not only the theory behind STEM subjects but how that knowledge is applied in the real world.
Associate Principal Claire Morris said: “Our first T Level results are something everyone at WMG Academy Solihull is enormously proud of. A 100% pass rate, with 80% of students achieving a Merit or Distinction, is a remarkable achievement for our first cohort and shows what young people can achieve when excellent teaching is combined with practical learning, specialist facilities and real engagement with industry.
“What makes WMG Academy different is that technical education is not an add-on – it is part of our DNA. We want every young person to leave us with the knowledge, skills, confidence and experience to take their next step, whether that is university, a degree apprenticeship, a higher apprenticeship or directly into employment.
“With Digital Software Development joining Engineering in our T Level offer this September, there has never been a more exciting time to join WMG Academy Solihull.”
WMG Academy Solihull opened in 2016 and specialises in science, technology, engineering and maths. From September 2026, it will also welcome Year 9 students for the first time, giving young people even earlier access to its industry-led STEM curriculum.
For students receiving GCSE results this summer, it is not too late to become part of the story. Limited Sixth Form places remain for September 2026, with applications open now at: https://solihullwmgacademy.applicaa.com/yr12
Families looking ahead to September 2027 can also register for the Academy’s Open Day and secure a place in either Year 9 or Year 12, tour its specialist facilities, meet staff and students and discover its academic, technical and vocational pathways: https://solihullwmgacademy.applicaa.com/events/019ee047-d1a7-7cb2-968c-412f09c9dd81
