WMG Solihull celebrates record-breaking Key Stage 5 results, with outstanding achievements across A levels, vocational and technical qualifications
WMG Academy Solihull is celebrating its best-ever Key Stage 5 results, with students achieving outstanding outcomes across A levels, vocational and technical qualifications. The exceptional results have translated into fantastic destinations for students, with young people progressing confidently into university, higher and degree apprenticeships, and employment — demonstrating the Academy’s success in delivering its distinctive University Technical College model and preparing students for the next stage of their education, training and careers.
The Academy has seen particularly strong year-on-year improvement across its A level provision. Average grades in Maths, Physics and Computer Science have each increased by a full grade compared with last year, while the overall value-added measure across A level subjects has improved by more than half a grade on average, representing the Academy’s strongest performance to date. This summer also saw WMG Academy Solihull’s first cohort complete A level Electronics, alongside its largest-ever Further Maths cohort, with every Further Maths student achieving a grade B or above.
This year also marks the Academy’s first cohort of T Level Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control students receiving their results, with a 100% pass rate and the majority achieving a Merit or Distinction. This outstanding first set of results is a fantastic achievement and reflects the strength of the Academy’s technical education offer and its commitment to preparing students for successful careers in engineering.
WMG Academy Chief Executive, Stewart Tait, commented, “I am delighted that students at the WMG Academies have had their commitment and endeavours rewarded with impressive examination results that will allow them to progress to the next stage of their journey, be that University, Apprenticeships or direct employment. Whilst it is always pleasing to report year on year improvements in results, this year has seen a significant increase in the highest grades gained in both A levels and Technical Qualifications at Distinction * and Distinction. In our areas of specialism, the average student grade was a Distinction-. We are particularly pleased with our first cohort of T level Engineering students who all passed with the majority securing the highest grades of Merit or Distinction. Once again, there is a very impressive range of destinations that have been secured by Year 13 students that they and their teachers and parents should be rightly proud of.”
Highlights of this year’s fantastic student results and destinations include:
- Over a third of students achieving a top grade of Distinction*, A*or A,
- 100% A*-B in A level Further Maths
- 40% A*- B in A level Maths
- 55% Distinction and above in BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering (Double)
- 55% Distinction and above in BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Engineering (Single)
- 67% A*-C and above in A level Physics with 100% Pass over all
- 100% A*-C in A level Computer Science
Destinations
- Zayd a top achieving A Level students secured A,A,B,B in Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is going on to University of Warwick to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Faizan a top achieving A Level students secured A*,A*, A and B in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry securing him a University place at University of Birmingham to study Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics
- Grace a top achieving T level student secured a Distinction in T level Engineering and A* for Extended Project Qualification this in turn has resulted in her securing a Degree Apprenticeship with Parker Meggitt a global engineering leader specialising in components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence, and energy markets.
- Lewis, a top achieving T level, secured a Distinction in T level Engineering and goes on to Aston University to study Mechanical Engineering
Abdullah, a student who has been at WMG since Year 10, stated “I’ve been here since Year 10 and WMG has supported me a lot during my time; I couldn’t be more grateful”
Ahmed said “The support from WMG has been fabulous and it encouraged me to become a better version of myself”
Millie said “WMG brought me confidence when I couldn’t believe in myself”
NB: D and D* grades refer to Distinction and Distinction* grades available on Engineering, Science, Art and Business BTEC qualifications and IT Cambridge Technical and T Level qualifications, D* is equivalent to A* and D is equivalent to A.

This year’s outstanding results span A levels, vocational and technical qualifications, with students achieving an impressive range of top grades and securing fantastic destinations for their next steps.
We are particularly delighted to celebrate our first cohort of T Level Engineering students receiving their results, with the majority achieving Merit or above. This is a fantastic first set of results and reflects the strength of our technical education offer and our commitment to developing the skills, knowledge and industry experience needed for successful careers in engineering.
These results, alongside the fantastic destinations our students have secured, demonstrate what makes WMG Academy Solihull distinctive as a University Technical College. Our students are progressing into a wide range of exciting opportunities, including university, higher and degree apprenticeships, and employment. WMG Academy for Young Engineers is proud to work with a wide range of national and international employer partners who support our students in developing their employability skills. These partnerships are reflected in the excellent destinations our students have secured this year.
WMG Academy for Young Engineers provides GCSE, A-level and BTEC education for 13 to 19 year olds. It opened in 2016 and specialises in science, technology, engineering and maths. The academy is proud to offer learners between the ages of 13 and 19 a unique educational pathway, blending vocational learning, employability skills, academic teaching, business partners and technical expertise to create the engineers, computer scientists and scientists of the future. Starting in September 2026, WMG Academies (Coventry and Solihull) will introduce Year 9 admissions for the first time, offering students an earlier opportunity to engage with our industry-led STEM curriculum and employer-driven learning programmes. The academy will be holding an Open Evening on Thursday 24th September 2026.
