A fantastic start to Sixth Form at WMG Academy Solihull!
What a brilliant two days we have had welcoming our new Year 12 students to WMG Academy Solihull!
Thursday began with a warm welcome from our Principal and Head of Sixth Form, before students took part in valuable sessions focused on LinkedIn, CV building and developing their professional profiles.
In the afternoon, students put their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills to the test using MTA kits, taking on the challenge of building a marble bridge against the clock! There were plenty of challenges along the way, but our students worked exceptionally well together and demonstrated some fantastic resilience.
Friday saw us head to Coventry University for a full day experiencing what university life could look like. Students enjoyed sessions covering UCAS, university accommodation, choosing subjects and future careers, followed by a campus tour and lunch in The Hub.
The afternoon was all about hands-on engineering, with students getting involved in practical sessions across automotive and mechanical engineering. They designed and created mini aeroplanes and robot cars, with the robot car challenge involving some seriously tricky programming!
A special well done to Ryu-Hoyte , who was one of the first students to successfully calibrate his robot car and get it moving at speed!
We were incredibly proud of how professionally our Year 12 students conducted themselves throughout both days. They looked extremely smart, represented WMG brilliantly and showed the professionalism, teamwork and ambition we expect from our Sixth Form students.
A fantastic beginning to their WMG journey, we can’t wait to see what they achieve!
