Following on from my communication on Wednesday, the WMG Academy community is deeply saddened to learn that Ryan Keys, a Year 10 student, passed away today in hospital surrounded by his family. He was a valued member of our academy and will be missed by everybody. On behalf of the WMG Academy community, I would like to send our condolences to Ryan’s family, and ask you to continue to respect their privacy at this most difficult time.
We have shared the very sad news with our staff, who will continue to support students tomorrow in the academy. Additional external support is also being made available to those who would benefit from this. This academy has always been a small, caring community, with students rightly positioned at its heart. We will continue to be there for each other to provide comfort and support, and thank you, our parents/carers for your contribution to this process.
If needed, you may find the following resources below (and attached) helpful in supporting your child:
https://winstonswish.org/ Winston’s Wish is a charity that helps children, teenagers and young adults (up to the age of 25) find their feet when their worlds are turned upside down by grief,
https://www.childbereavementuk.org/ Support children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expected to live,
Whilst we believe the best way to support our students is for them to be with their teachers, friends and peers in a familiar environment, following a familiar routine, parents know their child best and if you feel your son or daughter is just too upset to attend the academy tomorrow please contact the office in the morning via the normal attendance channels.
