WMG ACADEMY SOLIHULL is celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE and equivalent results for all students in Year 11.
This year’s results represent the academy’s strongest GCSE performance to date, with significant year-on-year improvement across the cohort. The proportion of students achieving grades 9–4 in both English and Maths increased by 16 percentage points compared with last year, reaching its highest level to date. The proportion achieving grades 9–5 in both subjects also increased by 7 percentage points, while the overall average GCSE grade rose by half a grade. Particularly strong outcomes were seen across the academy’s STEM specialisms, with more than a quarter of students achieving grades 7+ in each of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Electronics, representing a significant improvement on last year.
The strong performance was reflected across key groups of students, with significant improvements in outcomes for Pupil Premium students and a narrowing of the gap for students with SEN. The proportion of Pupil Premium students achieving grades 9–4 in both English and Maths increased by 11 percentage points compared with last year, while the overall gap between Pupil Premium students and their peers narrowed to 0.39 grades, substantially below the national average. Students with SEN also performed strongly, with outcomes broadly in line with those of their peers. The gap between SEN and non-SEN students narrowed significantly compared with last year, with SEN students on average, achieving all of their target grades.
Together, these outcomes demonstrate the academy’s continued commitment to raising achievement and ensuring that all students, regardless of background or need, are supported to make strong progress and achieve their full potential.

Some individual highlights of this year’s results include:
- Latonielle – 10 excellent qualifications, including Grade 9 in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and a Distinction in Engineering Manufacture
- Glynnis – 10 excellent qualifications which included Grade 9 in Art, Grade 8 in Biology and Mathematics and Distinction in Engineering Manufacture and Engineering Design
- Ruben – 10 excellent qualifications which include Grade 9 in Mathematics, Grade 8 in Electronics and Physics, Grade 7 in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Distinction in Engineering Manufacture
- Lily – 9 excellent qualifications which include Grade 9 in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Art, a Grade 8 in English and Grade 7 in Mathematics, English Literature and Business, Distinction in Engineering Manufacture
- Brooke – 10 excellent qualifications, Grade 8 in Art, Grade 7 in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, English Language and Mathematics and Distinction in Engineering Manufacture
- Joseph – 10 excellent qualifications, Grade 8 in Mathematics, Grade 7 in English Literature and Electronics, Distinction in Engineering Manufacture and Merit in Engineering Design.

WMG Academy is also delighted that so many female students have been particularly successfult his year, overturning national trends and a falling number of young female engineers entering STEM professionals.
Associate Principal, Claire Morris said, “We are exceptionally proud of our students and the significant progress they have achieved. This year’s GCSE and equivalent outcomes reflect their sustained commitment, resilience, and determination, with almost a 10% increase in the proportion of students achieving grades 4+ in English and maths, and a 6% increase in those achieving grades 5+. These improvements represent a significant achievement and have contributed to strong outcomes and destinations for the forthcoming academic year. Each individual achievement is highly valued and recognised within the context of every student’s personal journey.
“These strong GCSE outcomes build on the academy’s best-ever Key Stage 5 results, announced last week, where students achieved outstanding results across A levels, vocational and technical qualifications. The success of the academy’s first cohort of T Level Engineering students, with 60% achieving Merit or above, further demonstrates the strength and breadth of the academy’s academic and technical education offer. Together, this year’s GCSE and Key Stage 5 results reflect the academy’s sustained commitment to high expectations, academic achievement and developing the knowledge, skills and experiences that enable students to progress successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, further training and employment.
“We also wish to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of our staff, whose tireless efforts to support, guide, and inspire have been instrumental in enabling our students to realise their full potential. Their commitment, alongside the hard work of our students, has played a vital role in securing these positive outcomes.
“We are delighted to have enrolled so many of our Year 11 cohort into our Sixth Form, where we know they will go on and excel further in their learning utilising our large number of national and international employer partners to continue to develop their employability skills. We are also very excited to have enrolled new students from a range of schools across Solihull and Birmingham.”
WMG Academy for Young Engineers, Solihull
WMG Academy for Young Engineers provides GCSE, A-level and BTEC education for 13 to 19 year olds. It opened in 2016 and specialises in science, technology, engineering and maths. The academy is proud to offer learners between the ages of 13 and 19 a unique educational pathway, blending vocational learning, employability skills, academic teaching, business partners and technical expertise to create the engineers, computer scientists and scientists of the future. Starting in September 2026, WMG Academies (Coventry and Solihull) will introduce Year 9 admissions for the first time, offering students an earlier opportunity to engage with our industry-led STEM curriculum and employer-driven learning programmes.
