The Year 10 football team are celebrating this week after claiming a 3-1 victory over WMG Academy Coventry. Mr Loxton reports.
On Friday WMG Academy Coventry hosted a football match against WMG Solihull.
The match started with some good play from both sides with midfield battles emerging. A 30 yard shot from Zaine Khan (Solihull) initially was given as a goal but after some deliberation was then disallowed. The game continued with bursts of attacking football from both sides. Eventually Solihull had a breakthrough with Joe Underhill scoring with a great finish from a good move by Solihull.
The game progressed and Coventry equalised. the first half ended 1-1. The second half kicked off and, as in the first half, was well battled in the midfield with chances from both sides. Solihull was awarded a free kick 25 yards from the Coventry goal. Teddie Caldicott stepped up to take it and duly dispatched the ball over the goalkeeper’s head to score Solihull’s second goal.
The game picked up pace, with Coventry trying to equalise. Solihull changed things around and moved Beau Hamilton from his position of central defender to striker. This paid dividends as Beau made a great run and scored the third goal.
The match was played in great spirit and sportsmanship. There was talk of a rematch even before the teams walked off the pitch.
