On Thursday 12th July 2024, WMG Solihull hosted its first ever Culture day, this event was intended to raise awareness of customs and cultures, within the spirit of promoting understanding of our similarities, and acceptance of our differences particularly within our school community.
Students arrived in clothing linked to their own heritage or culture and were treated to a range of diverse foods and activities. These activities included Chinese circus skills, Graffiti art and African drumming sessions alongside their usual curriculum. The atrium big screen displayed popular Bollywood films and a group dance session led by Miss Dhani and Miss Bailey spontaneously took place at lunchtime. It was wonderful to see how engaged both pupils and staff were and how proud they were to display their heritage.
A display was also kindly erected by Steven Charlton illustrating the commitment and sacrifice made by West Indian pilots during the Second World War, this was both emotive and informative for us all.
