The Year 9 Curriculum
Our Year 9 curriculum is carefully designed to provide strong academic foundations while introducing students to the practical, industry-inspired learning that makes our academy unique.
Core Subjects
Students study a core set of subjects throughout the academic year, including English, Mathematics, Science, Engineering Manufacture, Physical Education, and RSHE. These subjects build essential knowledge and skills while supporting preparation for future GCSE study.
Thematic Learning Blocks
Alongside core subjects, students complete thematic modules in Enterprise, Digital, and Design. These focused blocks allow students to explore real-world challenges and develop practical, creative, and problem-solving skills. Within these thematic blocks, pupils explore the following subjects. Art, Design, Business, IT, Computer Science and Electronics.
Our curriculum meets the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum requirements, while also reflecting the distinctive UTC approach, which connects learning to industry and real career pathways.
A key part of this experience is our Enrichment Programme, where students benefit from opportunities to work with employers, take part in industry-related activities, and gain insight into the world of work.
Within each thematic module, students will experience:
- A clearly defined project brief
- Core subject knowledge linked to real-world applications
- Development of technical and practical skills
- Opportunities to work with and learn from employers
- Built-in opportunities to develop literacy, numeracy, and assessment skills
This combination of academic learning, technical exploration, and employer engagement ensures students gain the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed for the next stage of their education.
